The Gaudí Cinema Awards return at the CCIB
For the third consecutive year, the machinery of the most important Catalan cinema awards returned to the CCIB to celebrate its annual gala, which is held at the Forum Auditorium. The red carpet was crowded with the glamour of the film stars who received the applause and reward from the public and colleagues. 3,000 guests attended the event, which was also broadcast live on television.
The announcement of the nominations gave already much to talk about, with four clear favorites: Uncertain glory (16 nominations), Summer 1993 (14), The Bookshop (12) and Mainland (11). Summer 1993 was the great winner of the Catalan cinema soirée, after getting the awards for Best Film, Best Direction and Best Screenplay for Carla Simón, and two other awards. Uncertain glory gained eight of the awards to which opted. But the party was much more than a competition and became a great entertainment and fun show. The best possible celebration to honor the talent of Catalan film professionals.
Only one of the distributed awards was assigned in advance: the actress Mercè Sampietro received the “Gaudí of Honour” during the gala. The decision of the Academy board of directors wanted to emphasis her long trajectory in cinema, theater and dubbing. Thus, she joins a list of honorees such as Jaime Camino, Pere Portabella, Rosa Maria Sardà or Josep Maria Pou, among others.
10 years of awards
The Gaudí Awards, that gain prominence year after year and have consolidated their prestige among critics, are celebrating their 10th anniversary in 2018. In this edition, they wanted to show their support for the #Me Too campaign and claimed the commitment of culture in a particularly complicated context for the audiovisual industry, transferring to our times the poetic force of pioneer Georges Méliès thoughts and the transforming power of cinema.
