Local tourism companies have met with international operators
According to the National Statistics Institute, the latest figures show it, hotel occupancy increased 4.5% year basis in August in Catalonia. Considering that 2015 was a good year, this is an extraordinary fact complemented with the origin of tourists (France and the UK, mostly) or the tourism brands in the region that recorded the highest increases (Pyrenees and Val d’Aran, with increases of 21.9% and 5.2%, respectively). From the 53 million of tourists who came to Spain until August, 25% had Catalonia as their destination.
Certainly, the growth of the sector and the increasing visibility of Catalonia as a whole are key. This is due to the interest of the national and international tourism in Barcelona capital, as well as to the successful promotional actions carried out by both the Administration and the private sector, allowing the attractions of the Catalan territory to be increasingly known worldwide.
Buy Catalunya 2016
More than 150 tour operators of 38 international markets attended the recent edition of the most important workshop of the year for the Catalan tourism sector. They met with more than 200 local companies in order to know about their wide range of offers and market them later in their own countries. In total, more than 3,000 appointments were scheduled the following days by site visits to different places in Catalonia.
Buy Catalunya was hosted for the second time by the CCIB, a stage that, despite having 12 years of history, was a pleasant discovery for some of the attendees, who appreciated the facilities and gastronomic services offered. Also the Catalan Tourism Agency, as the event organizer, wanted to express their satisfaction with the result. According to Meritxell Canals, Responsible for Promotional Actions,
the workshop organized this year has been one of the best in all the editions of Buy Catalunya, partly thanks to the professionalism of the CCIB.
On the 28th September, from the Banquet Hall, with its spectacular views to the Mediterranean Sea, a one step further was taken to strengthening Barcelona and Catalonia as a first-class tourist destination.
